Welcome to our Pizzazz
blog skip!
I am so excited you stopped by!
Before I get to my Pizzazz card I wanted to share a quick story with you all. Hopefully it will provide an added measure of inspiration.
I have been making cards for OWH since January of this year. I love it! My own sweetheart recently deployed again and the first piece of mail I received from him was this card from OWH! WooHoo!
These were not available during his previous deployments and he was so excited to find the box of cards especially since he knows I help make them! Only, do you notice something a little funny about this card I received just this past week?
It's very pretty and it's a Mother's Day card!
I jokingly asked him about that and he replied,
"It could of been a Father's Day card. My choices were limited!"
WE NEED TO MAKE MORE CARDS!
Let's make sure our heroes have lots to choose from!
Now for some pizzazz. I thought this was going to be an easy task, but I was mistaken. I made my card and I liked it, only I kept worrying if my card had enough pizzazz or if it would pale in comparison to the other cards on the skip. I kept asking myself, "Is it fancy enough?"
I decided for me it's not so much the "flash" but the care and effort put into the card!
I hope you like it!
I hope you like it!
This card has a lot of fun things going on. There are 6 different papers (I love to layer and mix patterned paper), inked edges, dimensional butterflies (there are 2 punches per butterfly: one lies flat and the other is bent), and a little bit of bling.
Paper: All six pages come from Die Cuts with a View, Fun in the Sun Glitter Pack
Paper punch: Martha Stewart
Stamp: Stampin' Up
Ink: VeraMagic, Mango Magic
Thanks for visiting!

This is a card I would make! The patterned paper is bright and cheery, and the butterflies pop and add to happy feeling of the card! Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI really like your card! The colors are bright and cheerful and the butterflies are a pretty touch iwth the gems!
ReplyDeleteThis is very pretty, it's amazing how even a small amour of bling, like the brads in your butterflies, can really grab one's attention and add so much to make the card feel perfectly finished.
ReplyDeleteGreat story about you being on the "receiving end" of OWH cards! Thanks for sharing that. Now, IMHO that card has terrific "pizzaz"! I love how you did the double punch thing with the butterflies, so that they add great dimension! I almost always ink my edges for depth, like you show, so we're in the same boat with that technique!
ReplyDeleteI love the use of the 3 butterflies -I have that punch and need to pull it our again! Love the paper and colors you used! I think it is great that your husband sent you the card- he went with what he had- and you must have been thrilled that it was an OWH card!! Loving this blog skip!
ReplyDeleteLove the butterflys, they added the perfect touch. You didn't need to worry about this card, it is great.
ReplyDeleteI love your card and with the pattern paper and the butterflies in flight, it really makes for an awesome look.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing, Shannon. Love the butterflies and how you layered them and all the other extra touches you added.
ReplyDeleteLove your card. I have a horrible time using patterned papers on a card (even using one patterned paper scares me) so seeing how you used more than one really helps me get a little braver with patterned papers.
ReplyDeleteYou papers go so well together! I'd never dream of trusting myself to match up 6 at once but this card is beautiful! That bottom layer of DP is inspiring; I only use solid colors for bottom layers but now I see that if the pattern is busy enough, a 1/4in border will add some extra flair. Thanks for this card; it's beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI love that you shared your story! I was introduced to OWH just about 2 months ago when I received an OWH birthday card from my son in Afghanistan at the time. I've been following the FB page and blogs ever since, and I'm just starting to get cards made for OWH. I hope to get my middle school students making Any Hero cards this school year. And I will use your butterfly card as a reminder to use the double layer butterflies - really cute with the added brads.
ReplyDeleteI love the difference inking the edges of the paper makes! I often layer my butterflies too. Beautiful card!
ReplyDeleteMixing patter papers is a skill and yours look great. I also like the added frame with the string/twine you've added. My son is in Japan serving and he hasn't written once. I asked if he had the cards there and he said no. I'm busy trying to make more so families can hear from their loved ones.
ReplyDeleteI love your butterflies, I started doing that as well. Lovely mix of papers too!

That's some really pretty paper! I like how you inked the edges and used the layered butterflies! Definitely a wow!
ReplyDeleteI really like the dimension added by the double butterflies without being too bumpy to mail.
ReplyDeleteThis is absolutely lovely! I'm surprised you worried about pizzaz because you nailed it! But it reminds me what I hear so often from other cardmakers and that is that we are our own worst critics! Beautiful, beautifil card Shannon and I would love to CASE it...
ReplyDeleteLovely card--I like the inked edges and the dimensional butterflies.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your story. It's so motivating to hear a personal story about receiving a handmade card from OWH. Makes me want to make more cards knowing it touches so many lives in such a wonderful way. I love the 2 layer butterflies with the little gold bling on it. What a sweet touch!
ReplyDeleteHi Shannon,
ReplyDeleteI, too, want to thank you for sharing your story -- and thank you and your hubby for your service and sacrifice. Love the layered, dressed-up butterflies. That's one of my favorite go-to pizazz effects.
I love your color combo. I now am learning to buy paper in sets for easy color matching. I have had trouble trying to find colors in the same family that blend. Yours looks great with all the papers, I wouldn't have thought to put that many together.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your story. I also have a story. . .my son and daughter-in-law are both Air Force and were deployed to Qatar. They found it hard to find cards to send, when they came home in June I asked them if they'd heard of OWH and they hadn't. If they go back they'll be on the look out for them.
ReplyDeleteYour card really pops with the colors you've added. The butterflies add dimension and seem to fly of the card.
Thanks for sharing! I'm going to have to try the double layer butterflies!
ReplyDeleteI like all the layering.
ReplyDeleteEven though the papers are busy, the solid ribbons really focus your eye on the sentiment and bring it all together.
Pretty card. Your pizazz is the background paper. You did a nice job of layering
ReplyDeleteI am a layer person also - great colors for a happy card someone can send home to a loved one - I love your story about the first OWH card you received
ReplyDeletethanks for being a part of the skip

Love using layer too, the butterflies are the best.
ReplyDeleteI loved your story! Made me want to sit down and create some cards right now. And don't worry, your card is plenty pizazzy! It's a very pretty and cheerful card. Love the colors!
ReplyDeleteI really like the colored patterns you have chosen and blended them all together.
ReplyDeleteI love your bright colored butterflies and the baling on them. Your eye followsthem up to the sentiment.
ReplyDeleteShannon, your card is so bright and cheery, I love it. Your story is so funny.
ReplyDeleteWhat you did with your Nestabilities behind the sentiment is so interesting. I would have never thought of doing that. The extra die cut I am assuming you cut in half and extended the ends. A nice added bit of interest to your colorful and fun card
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed your story -- it does sound like we need to get busy. You did a great job on your card and it has plenty of pizzaz. I like to do layers too -- the butterflies are just perfect for your card. Thanks,
ReplyDeleteSharon
Like the tip about the butterflies. They look like they are ready to fly off the card! Thank your husband for his service, and I hope he comes home soon.
ReplyDeleteYour card and papers are beautiful! Oh, and Happy Mother's Day!
ReplyDeleteThe card and papers look great together, plus I like the orange banner.
ReplyDeleteGreat story! I think the way you put the 6 different papers together was ingenious. They are so well-balanced. Impressive!
ReplyDeleteLove your paper choices! I love to ink my edges! TFS!!!
ReplyDeleteI love the background papers but what I notice most is how well the embellishments color-coordinate with the papers. The pop of red in bkgnd. is great, too.
ReplyDeleteI love all your patterned papers and the inking on them. Your butterflies are so pretty as embellishments.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! Butterflies are some of my favorite things. I love your card and the pretty papers that you picked. Great job! May your sweetie return home to you safely, very soon! That is an awesome story, about your card!
ReplyDeleteI love the bright patterned papers! I tend to shy away from bold patterns, you've inspired me to challenge myself to a bold patterned card! Many thanks to you and your sweetheart!
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty card! I love the colors you used and all the layering. Most of all I love the dimensional butterflies!
ReplyDeleteYou have a gift for matching papers!! This is something that has ALWAYS intimidated me - thanks for sharing your beatuiful work and for inspiring me to try mixing it up a bit :)
ReplyDeleteLoved your story! I'm always hesitant to use more than 1, possibly 2 patterned papers, but your solid color choices calm it down and make it all flow together. Thanks to your and your sweetheart for your service to our country! Your story is a perfect example of why I support OWH! Thanks for sharing it with us,
ReplyDeleteR/
I love the color combination you choose. I also love that you used multiple patterned papers... I'm always a little hesitant to do that! Your card is truly a work of art!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful colors and all so well coordinated! Love the dark yellow ink for the sentiment. The yellow strip of paper and inking of the edges of the layers in yellow really make the greeting pop and pull together your great design! The butterflies are the perfect touch. Plenty of pizzazz here!
ReplyDeleteSHANNON! I MADE THAT MOTHER'S DAY CARD! Woo! Love seeing my cards in the field!! So glad you liked it, even if it wasn't actually Mother's Day! Thank your husband for his service and thanks to you and your family for the sacrifices you make, too!
ReplyDeleteYour butterfly card is gorgeous, I love that mix of patterned paper!
I am so happy to find you! Thank you so much! I love it!
DeleteI like the double butterfly technique. I do that myself. Have you tried making the second (top) layer vellum? I like the doble layered label too. Thanks
ReplyDeleteI'm blown away by how you matched 6 papers so beautifully. That always scares me and I rarely use more than 2 papers at a time. The double punch butterflies add some extra pizzaz. I have the MS plain and filligree butterflies that I love to double like yours. Thank you and your sweetie for your services.
ReplyDeleteIt BEAUTIFUL!!! And def. fancy enough!! I LOVE the layers, DP, 3-D butterflies!! Thanks, too for the reminder to get busy!! TFS!!
